MELAKA

Melaka is a culturally rich place located next to the Strait of Malacca, providing the place with a calm, peaceful aura. Melaka was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on 7 July 2008 due to the historical site you can find there.

Melaka is influenced a lot by Asia and Europe. It has over 500 years of cultural and trading exchanges between East and West, making Melaka a place of a multicultural heritage that is tangible and intangible.

With the mixture of influences towards Melaka, it has created a unique architecture and townscape which you hardly see elsewhere in Malaysia. You can see it from the shophouses and townhouses. There are many different types and stages of development of the building type. Some buildings even originated in the Dutch or Portuguese periods.

Melaka is full of attractions that locals and visitors from all over the place would want to travel to visit. St. Paul’s Church which was previously for the Portuguese. is one of the attractions. Other places include Jonker Street, Bukit China, Kampung Keling Mosque, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, and many more.

Besides that, Melaka is quite popular with its street art. They started street art with the buildings beside the river. There were nine artists who came together to paint on the walls of shophouses along the river. It is known as ProjectARM, the artworks are designed to highlight Melaka’s beauty.
